AMAZING CAR

No. 1: 1981 DeLorean DMC-12, "Back to the Future"
Drivetrain: 1.21-gigawatt nuclear/electric hybrid with five-speed manual transmission; rear-wheel drive Notable Features: Gull-wing doors, 16-port twin exhaust boxes, flux capacitor This was an overwhelming choice for voters, and why not? Doc Brown's smoke-spewing DeLorean achieves time travel at 88 mph thanks to a plutonium-powered nuclear reactor and onboard flux capacitor. By the end of the first movie, it runs solely on trash — and it can fly. That's still futuristic two decades after the movie debuted. Sure, the ignition seems to have some reliability issues, but this car easily won our hearts.

Before the video game Gran Turismo came along, Honda had a lock on youthful buyers with the Civic. Fun to drive, reliable, and equipped with technologically advanced and fuel-efficient engines, Honda Civics could be easily tailored to the owner's personality through myriad aftermarket parts catalogs and websites.
But then the PlayStation gaming system exploded into living rooms, exposing the youth of America to Civic alternatives ranging from aging Nissan 240SXs to hyper Mitsubishi Evolutions. Honda responded by killing the handsome Civic Si coupe after the 1999 model year, and by dropping the Civic's popular double-wishbone suspension system with a 2001 redesign. In 2002, the Civic Si returned as a 160-horsepower version of the Europe-only hatchback, which looked like a doorstop and didn't possess the increasingly popular aggressiveness popularized by drivel such as "Too Fast, Too Furious."
With the debut of the Honda Civic Si Concept, a barely disguised version of what will appear in showrooms for 2006, Honda makes it clear that it still wants its slice of the sport-compact pie. Honda has also announced that the production version of the Si will debut at the 2005 Specialty Equipment Marketers Association (SEMA) trade show in Las Vegas in November, and that Honda is SEMA's official vehicle manufacturer for the show - which means scores of modified new 2006 Civics adorned with scantily clad women will litter the desert floor come November.

Honda is making waves around the globe rolling out its all-new, eighth-generation Civic. While in the United States, we're most excited about the 200-hp Si model, in Europe, it is the combination of zippy performance and fuel economy in the base models that has consumers fired up. In Europe, there are three engine choices: 1.4L i-DSI (intelligent-Dual and Sequential Ignition), 1.8L, and 2.2 i-CDTi diesel. Given the rise in gasoline prices, all commuters can appreciate the new hybrid with a 1.3L three-stage i-VTEC engine that can recover 10 percent more energy than the outgoing model. This hybrid system has 20 percent greater output than the '05 model and still shows a five percent improvement in fuel economy. The Civic also boasts gains on the safety front, with standard features such as ABS with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), and a seatbelt reminder system for the rear passengers. The company expects that the new Civic will achieve Euro NCAP ratings of 5 stars for front and side impact safety.

2010 BMW 5-series

When you think of luxury executive saloons, one car always comes to mind, the BMW 5-series. A class leader since its inception, the 5-series remains a crucial car to BMW. With the current E60 5-series introduced back in 2004, BMW is preparing the sixth-generation model to be revealed in 2010. It will be a tough job for the designers as well as the thousands of engineers working across BMW’s development centers to renew the current model, a car that already resides at the edge of the technical front line.
The new design is critical for BMW’s design manager Adrian van Hooydonk and his team, who have to create an exterior that radiates the brand’s distinctive design values and at the same time feels new and fresh. Using information from various sources, these renderings were compiled by our partners over at Sweden’s Auto Motor and Sport and their illustrator Radovan Varicak, giving us a preview of what the final version will look like.
The front-end will likely feature a more upright kidney grille in order to comply with stronger pedestrian protection laws, while the headlights won’t be stretched out like on the current model. BMW’s characteristic interaction between convex and concave shapes will still be emphasized, and will be clearly indicated in the engine hood’s lines.
The rear roofline and C-pillar connects more fluidly to the trunk lid, which is now devoid of the Bangle-butt that was so universally derided with the E60 model. Parts of the tail-lights continue onto the trunk lid in order to strengthen the impression of width. We must say, this design is very pleasing and if BMW’s car looks anything like this, we sure it’ll lure back any customers loss to its rivals because of the controversial styling of the former E60.
